Gone are the days of simply mastering your “3Rs.” To get ahead, today’s students must also comprehend their “4Cs” (critical thinking and problem-solving, communications, collaboration, and creativity and innovation). Digital literacy and 21st-century skills are integral in setting up youth for success. Enter techspark!, an open-source curriculum developed by Project for Pride in Living (PPL) in partnership TECHdotMN, designed to engage middle- and high-school students from low-income households. Lessons include everything from keyboarding and computer maintenance to photo and audio editing. It was an honor to help coordinate and design this innovative program’s Coordinators and Mentors Guidebook.
